| Requirement Analysis |
SPSU - AUV 2005 |
Operational Requirements
These requirements focus on the operation of the system -
what the system is required to do.
- Water tight at 40ft
- Move forwards and backwards at variable speeds
- Be able to stop
- Change and maintain depth
- Change direction
- Know where we are relative to where we started
- Collision avoidance
- 0.1 buoyancy
- Below 110lb weight
- Balanced horizontal stability
- Transmit data to shore
- Autonomous operation
- Drop markers
- Detect pinger locations
- Detect underwater visuals
- Power for 30 minutes minimal
- Collect and store data
- Emergency shut off
- Lifting hook
- Keep track of time
Environmental Considerations
These considerations focus on the environment the system
is to operate within. Clearly define the basic environmental
elements that could influence the sytsem.
- High wind
- Rain
- Direct sunlight
- heat
- temperature differential
- Power availability
- Network access
- Phone access
- Interference
User Considerations
These considerations focus on the user of the system. Things such
as size, weight, depth, etc. should be looked at closely. These
should be written as rules such as don't make mainentance openings
to small for fingers. Be specific about size, however.
- Food (cooler)
- Rest
- First aid
- Team diver
- Laptop
- Team uniform
- Easy transportation/reasonable weight
- Visual indicators
- Restroom
- On sight documentation
- Tools/instrumentation
- Replacement parts and materials
- Sun protection
- Funs for individuals
- Business cards
- Modular for reuse/flexibility
- Easy Maintenance
Shipping Considerations
These considerations focus on transporting the system. Focus
on listing conditions with which the sytem may be subjected
such as shock and temperature variations.
- Organized
- Easy to pack
- Manageable weight
- Weather proof storage
- Safe and secure
- Carry on airplane
- Assemble and disassembly instructions
- Alternate plans
Lifecycle Planning
Here we focus on component reuse and disposal. This should not
be limited to hardware but also software and documentation.
- Modular design
- Quality products
- Standard interface
